Life, Tech and Unimportant Minutiae

March 2013 Notes

Game of Thrones Season 2 - Watched discs 1,2,4,5 - skipped 3 because it wasn't available and with Alison having read several of the books - which worked out nicely... These are good fun - but I can not say I am a rabid fan. Rating: 3 of 5

Glacier National Park: My master plan - A great dream for Glacier, worth glancing at if you love wilderness! What actually made me include this in these notes was this line - "Creating a more mature, sustainable way of being on earth is vital for the United States" - the devil is in the details I suppose, but I have never heard anyone say quite those words and they resonated with me.

Atmen (Breathing) - I enjoyed this quite a bit - this shows interesting/beautiful/thoughtful/terrible scenes of a life, a bit slow if you are looking for a 'traditional' plot and you will be disappointed if you want meaningful/heartfelt ending - but it is quite wonderful if you have time to sit and watch... Rating: 4 of 5.

Beyond Belief - When then started on PBS I ignored it for awhile, didn't seem that interesting - but as it went on and there was more coverage of life in Afghanistan it became fascinating/terrible/amazing to catch a glimpse of the lives of the widows in Afghanistan. Rating: 3 of 5.

Searching for Sugar Man - If you like documentaries this is a much watch that tells the fascinating/inspiring story of Sixto Rodriguez - great twists and turns to this story and what an interesting person to find at the end! Rating: 4 of 5.

Arrested Development, Season 2 - Failed to get into Season 1 several years ago - but with people still talking about this Alison suggested trying Season 2, which I still failed to get into... Rating 2 of 5 (clearly good/funny, just not for me)

Revanche - Great twisted plot/story - maybe a touch long/slow in places but really quite sad/shocking. Rating 3 of 5.

Northern Mocking Bird Night Songs: Some years - like this one - we are lucky enough to have a Northern Mockingbird singing at night close to our window. The first night (years ago) this happened I actually thought it was a recording playing on a malfunctioning device designed to keep birds away from something (a very middle of the night theory...) and it drove me a little nuts. But now I look forward to his nocturnal songs - an old friend in the middle of the night. Rating: 5 of 5
