I love the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson - for quite a few years the various place names - Samaniego Ridge, Knagge Trail, Guthrie Mountain, Pusch Peak... have conjured both dreams and memories. Until a few years ago the names were just magical markers - but now it is fun to know where they came from.

Canyon of Gold: Tales of Santa Catalina Pioneers by Barbara Marriott has some great stories and information - and names that you might recognize from today's map of the Santa Catalina Mountain - Knagge, Pusch, Sutherland, Samaniego, Charouleau... Certainly some familiar information, but quite a few details that I don't think I have ever read before!
